Nir Eyal studied at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he later lectured on behavioral design. He co-founded two technology companies, advised Bay Area startups and venture capital firms, and spent years consulting Silicon Valley companies on user engagement. His writing has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, The Atlantic, Forbes, and Psychology Today, and he maintains the blog NirAndFar.com.
Hooked (2014) grew out of years of documenting the behavioral patterns behind habit-forming products. After publishing it, Eyal became a go-to voice for how technology captures attention — and then reversed course. His follow-up, Indistractable (2019), applied the same understanding of psychology to helping readers resist external manipulation and reclaim their focus. The pivot was deliberate: having described how the hook is built, he wanted to show people how to avoid getting caught by it.
