The Inevitability of Adopting the Christian Conception of Life
Tolstoy discusses the transition from the pagan conception of life to the Christian one, arguing that humanity is inevitably moving towards the latter. He compares this transition to the historical shift from personal, animalistic views of life to socialized views. Just as the social conception of life once seemed incomprehensible and mystical, the Christian principles of universal brotherhood, equality, and non-violence will eventually become natural and simple. 'The time will come and is inevitably coming when all institutions based on force will disappear through their uselessness, stupidity, and even inconvenience becoming obvious to all,' he predicts.
